Support for local Poppy Appeal as strong as ever in 2009
Chairman Geoff Gittins said " we would like to thank all who donated their time collecting
and the people who donated money, as £4,500 was collected over a few days.
Our thanks also go to Morrisons, whose support has once again
proved a success for The Royal British Legion".

Commemorative ceremonies accross North Devon on the 65th anniversay of the D-Day landings
Royal British Legion Bideford branch chairman Geoff Gittins lays a wreath in Bideford's Victoria Park to remember those who fell on D-Day. Also in picture are Ernie Mason and Dennis Williamson of the RBL Bideford branch committee.
Geoff said "all around the country there will be small ceromonies like this and people of all ages paying their respects, we should never forget what was done in the name of freedom" |

Chivenor troops welcomed back to North Devon
The 300 returning troops of 24 Commando Regiment Royal Marines based at RMB Chivenor received a heroes welcome from the villagers of Braunton on Wednesday 8 April 2009
A medal giving ceremony followed by a parade was brought together by Braunton Parish Council. Jasmine Chambers, chair of the Council along with MP for North Devon, Nick Harvey gave praise and welcomed home the Regiment before the medals where awarded by Major General CJ Boag CBE.

Strong Local Support for Local Poppy Appeal
RBL Bideford Chairman Geoff Gittins went to Morrisons on Saturday to thank them for their support with the local poppy appeal and was informed that over four thousand pounds had been donated to the poppy appeal from their customers and staff.
Geoff Gittins said "the amount collected is fantastic and I say thank you to Morrisons and their customers, also the collecters and both large and small businesses throughout the area who are making the appeal run so successfully. Hopefully we will beat last years total of over sixteen thousand pounds"
